Our herd of Black Angus and Wagyu cross cattle are fed and finished with pasture-raised grasses, and drink pure water from local springs. We never use antibiotics or growth hormones. Naturally, this results in premium-quality, delicious beef that is low in fat, high in nutrients, and better tasting than any beef found at your local market.
Our ranch was homesteaded in 1864 by the Fredenburg family who were some of the earliest settlers and cattle producers in southern Oregon–it’s been a working cattle ranch ever since. In 1983 the ranch was purchased by the Lozano Family and since then has specialized in pasture-raised and finished all natural, premium Black Angus beef. Today the JRL Ranch is owned by the Lozano and Larson families and is managed by the Ensley family, all of whom are passionate about sustainable agriculture that results in nutritious, delicious and ethically-raised meat.
Direct-to-consumer Purchases
JRL Ranch sells whole portions of cattle directly to consumers. This means when you purchase beef from us, you are purchasing a portion of the entire animal; you have a choice of either whole, half, or a quarter of an animal. This translates to the following amounts of consumable beef:
Whole: Approximately 440 lbs (160-200 lbs of ground beef, 80-120 lbs of steaks, and 80-120 lbs of roasts)
Half: Approximately 220 lbs (80-100 lbs of ground beef, 40-60 lbs of steaks and 40-60 lbs of roasts)
Quarter: Approximately 110 lbs (40-50 lbs of ground beef, 20-30 lbs of steaks, and 20-30 lbs of roasts)
All shares come with excess bones for bone broth or stock, marrow bones, short ribs and bones for dogs or cats
Custom Orders: All meat is cut and wrapped to individual specification (thickness, types of cuts, number of steaks in a package, etc.). Please note that depending on the cuts of meat you choose, these percentages will vary (some people like more steaks and less roasts and some folks consume much more ground beef than steaks) – this is the beauty of custom cut and wrap – you specify exactly what you want! Customizing your order can be done at no extra cost. We recommend custom orders only for customers who have experience cooking grass-fed beef (which is easy to overcook!).
Standard “Rancher’s Choice” Orders: The majority of our customers prefer our standard order. This is how we cut our own meat. This option includes 1” thick steaks, 1 lb. packages of ground beef and 2 steaks per package. We grind tougher cuts (sirloin tips, round steak, stew meat, chuck steak) into ground beef. Ground beef is approximately 15% fat content (all fat is from the individual animal). Steaks include New Yorks, Tenderloin, Top Sirloin and Flank Steak or Tri-Tip. Roasts include prime rib, london broil, rump roast, chuck roast, cross rib roast and brisket.
If you are not sure that you can eat or store this much meat, consider splitting a quarter share with a friend or neighbor. You’ll both be happy foodies!
PRICING
Beef pricing fluctuates and is influenced by supply and demand, environmental factors that affect the availability and quality of feed, and international trade policies. Our goal is to offer beef equal to or better in quality and taste to premium beef purchased at specialty markets, such as Whole Foods, Jimbo’s, New Seasons Market, etc.
We are able to offer high-quality beef at a lower price because we cut out “middlemen” in the supply chain – no auction yards, no transportation conglomerates and no commercial meat packing facilities necessary. Our pricing is based on purchasing a portion of the entire animal, which is a much more economical and sustainable way to purchase beef while maintaining a consistent level of quality between different cuts of meat. Please contact us directly about current pricing. We always give a discount to members of the military and law enforcement agencies.
